With the Original Salty Dogs

As noted
in the text of the CD, the Original Salty Dogs goes back to the year 1947. The material in this first GHB CD was recorded by GHB in the 1960s and issued at that time. The material comprises the entire first LP GHB-44 and half of the second LP on our label GHB-58 Free Wheeling. It was re-issued on compact disc by GHB in 1997...the 50th anniversary of this superb group.

The tunes played in this album were not rehearsed especially for this recording; they are but a part of the vast repertoire performed during any engagement. It is evident that the band does not promote any one traditional style. The listener will therefore notice the influence of King Oliver, Jelly-Roll Morton, The New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Bix Beiderbecke, Lu Waters and many others.
