Franz Jackson and the Salty Dogs
YELLOW FIRE

CHICAGO - 2000. There is almost no regular traditional jazz - the only survivors of the bustling scene are the Salty Dogs, many of whom have regular Chicago-area gigs.  Franz Jackson appearing at Joe's Be-Bop Cafe at Navy Pier with a small group, and ex-Scobey trombonist Jim Beebe working at Braxton's Seafood Grill in Oak Brook.

It's only fitting that the Dogs and Jackson get together. In fact, it happened first in 1956, when Jackson was featured as a guest star with the Dogs at the Hunt Club. They're each repositories of the jazz traditions - the Dogs from their detailed study of early recordings and meeting many survivors of the early days of jazz during their student days, Jackson from playing the music professionally for over seventy years.
